Masalaa is proud to be the first and only Indian restaurant to receive Smart Meal Seal in Colorado. The Small Steps for Healthy Leaps restaurant program is a state-wide initiative sponsored by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment to stop the rise of obesity. The Smart Meal Seal was created by the Department of Public Health and Environment to establish nutrition requirements specifically designed for restaurant meals. This seal helps customers to be able to easily recognize healthy choices a restaurant has to offer. Guidelines for the nutrition requirements are set by The American Heart Association, 5 A Day for Better Health and the FDA nutrition labeling food guidelines. The items that qualified for the Smart Meal Seal should have:
-- Minimum of 2 servings of beans or whole grains, fruits or vegetables
-- No more than 30% of total calories from fat
-- No more than 15% of calories from saturated fat
-- No more than 1500mg of sodium

Masalaa received Yummy Award from the city of Aurora for two consecutive years. This prestigious award was presented to Masalaa on July 25th 2005 and was telecasted live on TV, presented and signed by Mayor of City of Aurora, Ed Tauer. After being certified as the first and only Indian restaurant to receive Smart Meal seal from the department of Colorado health and environmental department, Masalaa is now the first and only Indian restaurant to be certified as a restaurant to offer Gluten-Free menu.

An estimated one in 133 in the US suffer from celiac disease - these people can only survive on a gluten-free diet. MASALAA will be serving over 20 items certified as Gluten Free starting September 16th. Our Gluten Free menu includes our signature item Dosas, Appetizers, Entrees and Beverages. Please note that Gluten Free menu will be available only at Aurora location.
